A very busy start to the Rotary year!
Our Kennebunkport Rotary Club has certainly been very busy since the start of the new Rotary year! Since the end of our largest fundraiser of the year (the Annual Riverfest Duck Race), we have participated in a long list of community service projects and boy are we loving every minute of it!
We started in August by visiting the teachers of Consolidated School in Kennebunkport to present them with gift cards to purchase any last-minute items needed for their classrooms. We wish them an amazing school year and thank them for their dedication to the students of our school district.
In September, we helped in the Ride for Autism for the Autism Society of Maine by documenting riders to ensure their safe return, setting up and serving food to the riders and volunteers and assisting with cleaning up. We had such a great time and it was a very rewarding project to be involved in. We already volunteered ourselves for next year's event.
We also headed to Goose Rocks Beach to do an end of summer cleanup as part of the yearly Maine Coastal Cleanup Project. Each year, we participate to document the types of items we are finding on the beach. During the process, we collected several hundred points of trash and debris. We look forward to adding it to our calendar of events again next year.
In October, we organized a food drive to benefit COS of the Kennebunks. With the help of the Kennebunkport Recreation bus, we have filled it with non-perishables needed to fill the shelves of the food pantry. We appreciate the support from our community in our efforts to help those who need it most. The donations will be driven to the pantry this week!
The following day, we gathered again to support our friends at the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust with their annual Trailfest. We worked to help register and check in runners and act as trail marshals to guide runners and ensure their safety. A beautiful sunny day spent at the Trust for a great organization.
We look forward to continuing with our focus on community service projects in the upcoming months, and throwing in some fundraising opportunities so that we can continue our great work in the community and help our neighbors.
